Elva Hotel invites you to a Ski Touring long weekend in Voss with guided tours in beautiful mountain and fjord landscapes. Local experienced guides from Wild Voss will arrange guided tours every day with tours suitable for both beginners and more experienced hikers. After a wonderful day on skis, you return to Elva and can enjoy great food, a sauna, and a good atmosphere.

During the guided tour, you’ll experience wild and beautiful nature, delightful skiing, and gather valuable knowledge of ski touring and avalanche assessments.

Who is this for?

The weekend is a gathering for ski touring enthusiasts who enjoy combining mountain trips, socializing, and well-being. The trips are tailored to different group levels, so you don’t need to be necessarily super fit.

For those who know how to dress for ski tours in the high mountains during winter. You must be able to navigate on skis in varying weather and snow conditions with a light backpack, both uphill and downhill.

Three competent and experienced guides are ready to welcome you on Thursday evening at 5:30 PM where we gather for a joint briefing to review the weather, snow conditions, and avalanche forecasts for the next day’s trip.

The guides present various route options, answer questions, and review necessary equipment. We’ll divide into groups of 2-6 participants based on tour preferences, physical fitness, and skiing abilities. Everyone will be placed in a group for a tour that suits their level and preferences. After the briefing there will be dinner and a social.

Levels of the tours:

Easy:

  • 4-5 hours duration
  • Up to about 600 meters of elevation climb
  • Perfect for keen beginners with a little experience
  • The trip avoids steeper slops and avalanche areas (Class 1)

Medium:

  • 6-7 hours duration
  • Up to about 1000m of elevation climb
  • Requires some experience in ski touring, avalanche knowledge, and proficient skiing skills.
  • The trip can involve some steeper slopes (30-35 degrees) (Class 2)

Demanding:

  • 7-8 hours duration
  • Up to about 1500 meters of elevation climb
  • Requires good fitness, proficient skiing skills, experience in ski touring, and some experience of avalanch training
  • The tours may involve steeper slopes (35 degrees) and crossing some avalanche zones (Class 2).

Required equipment:

  • Ski touring skis and boots (rando or telemark) with skins
  • Wind and waterproof shell jacket, with hood
  • Thermal under layers, hat, gloves/mittens and neck buff
  • Down jacket and other layers
  • Avalanche equipment (spade, probe, beacon)
  • Ski goggles, sunglasses, suncream
  • Water bottle, lunch pack & snacks
  • We recommend using a ski helmet
  • Ski back-pack (about a 30 litre pack)

Included in the package:

  • Three days of tours led by a competent, certified avalanche instructor with local knowledge
  • Three tour briefings with the guides
  • Loan of avalanche equipment: shovel, probe, beacon
  • Necessary safety equipment
  • A lift pass for Sunday ("Toppturkort")
  • Train tickets round trip Voss - Uppsete/Ljosanbotn
  • Transport of participants to each tour
  • Three nights' accommodation at Elva Hotel including breakfast and packed lunch
  • 2 three-course and 1 seven-course dinners
  • Outdoor hot tub and sauna

First trip briefing:

The first trip briefing is on Thursday at 5:30pm. Check-in at the hotel is possible from 3:00pm

If you wish to rent ski equipment, we can arrange this on Thursday evening. Please contact us if you’re unable to attend the briefing on Thursday at 5:30 pm.

TIPS:

  • Are you struggling with blisters? A trick is to apply sports tape the day before and bring an extra pair of socks on the trip. Dry socks prevent blisters. Don't hesitate to ask the guide for advice before departure.
  • New ski gear? Borrowed ski gear? Check that the boots fit and that the boot fits into the binding (ski mode) and that the skins are adjusted to the skis.
